Involvement & Service

Involvement

ATOs are involved in clubs and organizations all over campus, including Student Senate, The Times-Delphic, professional fraternities, the Residence Hall Association, Mentors in Violence Prevention, the Peer Advisory Board, and more than 100 others! We're in every undergraduate school at Drake, had a 3.31 cumulative GPA in the spring of 2019 – the highest amongst Drake's fraternities – while still performing more than 650 service hours and raising more than $2,600 for various charitable organizations and nonprofits throughout the semester. Primarily, Delta Omicron raises money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association through our signature event, AlphaTACOmega, which you can read about below, as well as all of the other philanthropies hosted by Drake Fraternity and Sorority Life.

We recently got to work with other sororities in different service exchanges. Spring of 2019 we worked with Kappa Alpha Theta helping with an animal shelter called Furry Friends Refuge. Cleaning out the shelter and playing with cats and dogs, who wouldn't love that! Fall of 2019 we helped Kappa Kappa Gamma with their yearly service at Monroe Elementary for the first time, let's just say lots of kids were very happy!

Philanthropy

After three years of MuscleFest, ATO Delta Omicron has decided to rebrand its primary philanthropic effort, our signature event, into a new tradition: AlphaTACOmega. We held our first fundraiser -- an all-you-can-eat taco extravaganza at St. Luke's Episcopal Church on Forest Avenue -- in April 2016 and raised more than $4,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) in the spring semester alone, nearly double what we raised the year previous for the same organization. The philanthropy never could've come together without all of the support and generosity from the Drake community, as well as our friends, families, and alumni. The MDA is fighting a terrible disease, and we're just glad to do our part to help those who have MD, like our brother: Zachary Mecham. Watch the video below to learn more and see what went into making the first annual AlphaTACOmega a success!
